A hunt test is an event at which the natural ability and training of gun dogs are evaluated against a written standard. Each dog that meets this standard earns a pass. This is unlike a field trial in which dog/handler teams compete against one another with only one dog being declared the winner. Hunt tests are organized by the American Kennel Club (AKC), the North American Hunting Retriever Association (NAHRA), and the United Kennel Club (UKC) under the auspices of the Hunting Retriever Club (HRC).

Training
Hunt Tests
Gun dogs can start as early as 6 to 8 months. The training takes approximately 4 months. They will have a strong obedience base as we feel that obedience is the foundation of all training, whether gun dog, stock dog or family dog.
Gun dogs will be force fetched and will learn to heal, sit, and deliver to hand. They will be trained with birds and bumpers on land and in water.
We are small enough that special needs and desires can usually be accommodated. Contact us for more information on specialized training.
We feel your participation and questions are very important and we strongly encourage them!
Advanced Training
If you would like your dog to go further in training such as multiple marks and handling to further their hunting skills or to play in the hunt test game, we would be glad to arrange it.
We can also handle them in hunt tests or assist in preparing you to handle your own dog in hunt tests!
